Environmental Camps

Environmental Camps offer visitors a tranquil alternative to developed campgrounds. Humboldt Redwoods State Park has two Environmental Camps located on Mattole Road, approximately 6 miles west of the Avenue of the Giants. generally open Memorial Day through Labor Day, these sites have picnic tables, fire rings, bear lockers, chemical toilets, and untreated water. Campers must register at any open campground entrance station prior to setting up camp. Upon registration, campers will receive the gate combination to the parking area. Campers must walk between 50 and 200 yards from the parking area to their camp site.

Baxter Environmental Camp has two sites located under second growth redwoods along the south side of Bull Creek.

Hamilton Barn  is closed for construction 2024
Hamilton Barn Environmental Camp is located on an old homestead site and has three sites. Two sites are located under second growth redwoods and one is in the meadow, along the north side of Bull Creek.

Both Environmental Camps are located in black bear country. All food and scented items must be stored in a bear locker.

Site-specific reservations are available from just before Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. Baxter and Hamilton Barn are quite popular and reservations are recommended.

Fees are $20.00 per night.
