Cuneo Creek Horse Camp is reserved for park visitors who bring their horses to ride in the park. The park does not have riding stables or offer guided trail rides. Located on an old homestead on Mattole Road, eight miles west of the Avenue of the Giants, the campground has five family camp sites and two group camps. The campground offers picnic tables, fire rings, bear lockers, treated water, flush toilets, coin-operated showers, and a mounting platform. There are 12'x12' metal pipe corrals, water troughs, tie rails, and a sand rolling pit for the horses. Wheel barrows are provided, but visitors should bring their own pitch forks, hoses, buckets, and other equipment.
Each family site can accommodate up to eight people and two horses. Depending on the site, limited additional space may be available for temporary corrals provided by the visitor. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, bear locker, and two corrals for horses.
Cuneo Creek offers two group camps that can accommodate up to 90 people. Site A has space for up to 65 people and 22 corrals and is $200 per night. Site B has space for up to 25 people and 12 corrals and is $135 per night. Limited space is available in both sites for additional temporary corrals provided by the visitor. Each site offers picnic tables, bear lockers, an oversize fire ring, and a group size barbeque grill. Group sites can be reserved individually or together.
Cuneo Creek Horse Camp is open from the first Friday in May through mid-October. Site-specific reservations are available from mid-May through closing.
All campgrounds including the group horse camps within Humboldt Redwoods State Park are on site-specific reservations. Reservations can be made by contacting Reserve America at (800) 444-PARK (7275) or online at Reserve America.
