Humboldt Redwoods State Park is open year-round but some areas of our park do seasonally close October  to May each year, such as the Williams Grove. We also do not have specific sites dedicated to any particular event, you let us know where you would like to go and we provide restrictions based on that location. The following areas of the park do NOT allow special events or weddings: California Federation of Womens' Clubs Grove, Founders Grove and Rockefeller Forest. Please be aware that any weddings requests near Drury Chaney Grove/Trail or Grieg French Bell Grove will require a park monitor, which is an additional fee. Other areas of the parks may also require a monitor who will be with your event for the duration. All use must be off of all vegetation. We recommend all special event organizers and applicants choose a primary location to request and several alternates. Reservations are taken up to 6 months in advance, reservation requests over 6 months from event date are not accepted. It is currently taking up to 3 weeks to process special event permits. Permit applications/requests received with less than 4 weeks before event are not accepted. Please plan accordingly.

The California Federation of Womens' Clubs Grove is not available for any special events.

Many couples select Humboldt Redwoods State Park each year for their wedding ceremony or reception location. The park has a variety of beautiful settings that can provide the perfect place for that special day. Facilities, fees and the number of guests that can be accommodated vary based on the location in the park.

If you are working with a wedding planner or officiant please provide the name and contact information in your permit application. Again, please realize that events may be canceled at any time by State or Local Public Health Orders.

A non-refundable permit application fee of $150 plus an additional use fee, dependent on location is required for all weddings/special events. All fees are non-refundable, non-transferrable.There are fees for all areas and fees vary based on area. Most day use areas are not exclusive and remain open to the public during your special event.

Answers to common questions:

  1. Reservations for special events are taken up to six (6) months in advance. Special event permit applications received before that will not be reviewed.
  2. No signs or decorations may be attached to any State Park facility, sign, tree, or landmark.
  3. No electricity is available. The Park generator hours are, per T-14 CCR 4320, are 10:00 am to 8:00 PM.
  4. No fire restrictions if you are using Department approved facilities (Fire pits, BBQ pits, Fire rings).
  5. The restrictions for decorations are to keep your decorations to your reserved area and no decorations maybe attached to park signs or native plants. A better sign to use is a chalkboard easel.
  6. No damage deposit is required. Permit fees only, however there may be other requirements based on the size of your group and/or location.
  7. The park is open year-round but some areas of our park do seasonally close and remain closed until Spring, such as Williams Grove. During the closed season, no special events are permitted.
  8. No Arbors or other structures may be set-up in any forest groves. Chair set-up is only allowed in Williams Grove.
  9. All use must be off of all vegetation, including but not limited to: redwood logs, sorrel, and ferns.
  10. Dogs are not allowed on State Park trails or within any groves.
    • For the enjoyment of all our park visitors, please be aware of the following rules and laws if you will be visiting the park with your dog:
      • Dogs must be attended to at all times
      • Dogs are not allowed on any of the parks designated trails; near the river or creeks; in the open forest and meadows
      • Dogs must be on a six foot, or shorter, leash at all times and physically under your control
      • Dogs cannot be left in cars nor can a dog be leashed to your vehicle and left outside
      • Dogs may not be left unattended at any time
      • If your dog makes a mess in the park, please clean it up and dispose of the waste in one of our trash cans
      • If your dog is noisy, aggressive or causing problems, you may be asked to remove your dog from the park
      • Dogs are not allowed for comfort, emotional support, crime deterrence, therapy, well-being, or companionship.

All wedding ceremonies regardless of size/time require a permit, this ensures there are not other events affecting your wedding or others who hold other permits for various activities.

Getting married at Williams Grove: up to 100 people, $300 total fee. Available mid-May to mid-September only.

Getting married at another grove in Humboldt Redwoods State Park: size depends on location, must be less than 10 people, $150 (plus additional non-refundable fees-- location dependent). Please select three possible locations, in case Grove you request is unavailable. We are not able to pick a grove for you or recommend certain groves. The park is over 53,000 acres and there are hundreds of groves within the park all with their own uniqueness and restrictions.

The following areas of the park do NOT allow special events or weddings: Founders Grove, Rockefeller Forest, or California Federation of Womens Clubs Grove.

Grizzly Creek wedding maximum number of people is 7 during Summer, 15 in Winter. Please visit Cheatham Grove in person before applying, the parking area is very very small. No exceptions to max person limit.
