Park Events

Each year Humboldt Redwoods State Park attracts visitors with a number of special events. The Humboldt Redwoods Interpretive Association and Humboldt Redwoods State Park sponsor annual events including interpretive Canoe Hikes and an Annual Tree Lighting.

The park also hosts a number of events that are organized and sponsored by local groups. The Paddle to the Headwaters, Avenue of the Giants Marathon, and Humboldt Redwoods Marathon are annual events held in the park. See the links page for more information on these events.

Canoe Hikes

The interpretive canoe trip provides a unique way to experience the park from the South Fork Eel River. These Ranger-led events generally occur in April and May but are spring dependent on river conditions. Participants are required to have basic paddling experience and bring their own canoe or kayak and personal flotation device. All participants must provide their own canoe or kayak and must wear personal floatation devices. Wetsuits are recommended but layers of warm synthetic clothing, with spare dry clothing packed in a waterproof container, may be substituted. Everyone should bring a sack lunch and plenty of drinking water. Minimum age for participation is 12 years old. Trips are announced each March with each trip limited to 20 participants and the spaces tend to fill up fast.

Annual Tree Lighting

The Humboldt Redwoods Interpretive Association gets in the holiday spirit each year with an Annual Tree Lighting. This event is held on the second Wednesday in December. Join people of all ages at the Visitor Center for homemade treats, caroling, the tree lighting, and even a visit from Santa.
