Environmental Camps
Environmental Camps offer visitors a tranquil alternative to developed campgrounds. Humboldt Redwoods State Park has two Environmental Camps located on Mattole Road, approximately 6 miles west of the Avenue of the Giants. Open mid-May through late September, these sites have picnic tables, fire rings, bear lockers, chemical toilets, and untreated water. Campers must register at any open campground entrance station prior to setting up camp. Upon registration, campers will receive the gate combination to the parking area. Campers must walk between 50 and 200 yards from the parking area to their camp site.

Both Environmental Camps are located in black bear country. All food and scented items must be stored in a bear locker.
Site-specific reservations are available from just before Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. Baxter and Hamilton Barn are quite popular and reservations are recommended.
Fees are $20.00 per night.
